Sustainability and Action Plan
These are the things we are going to do at Melrose House Nursery School this year to make sure we are guardians of the planet.
There will be songs, maths, art and pen control activities around each season.
We will study the life cycle of the Painted Lady butterfly by watching 4 caterpillars.
Learn about composting. Compost food scraps and use the soil that we make in our compost heap.
Build the children's natural curiosity about their local environment by going on minibeast hunts in the garden and at Fulham Palace.
We will forage the blackberries in the garden and use them to bake blackberry and oat squares.
We will learn about where our food comes from and how it grows.
We will reuse materials (fabric, cardboard) in our junk modelling and craft activities.
We will learn about recycling.
Using the Little book of bird song in the garden we will learn about bird names and their songs.
We will learn the names of the plants that grow in the garden.
Plant, bird and flower names will be introduced throughout the year. For example, holly, robin red breast, daffodil.
We will plant and look after spring bulbs and measure the runner beans we grow.
We will create transient art and patterns with natural materials (petals, twigs, leaves, seeds) we collect in the garden.
